Culture "Shock"

Day1 (2-June) in Denmark: a mild culture shock. At least 80% of Danes speak English & so I was under the impression that it'll only make sense to have some level of English 'appearance' in their daily life, but I was wrong (shows that I didn't do enough homework).

So you can imagine, I was caught in quite a surprise when I found out that everything in Denmark is solely in Danish (which is difficult for someone who doesn't speak Danish like me). I cannot even buy milk from supermarket without asking around for help. The good thing is: Danes are nice & helpful (personal experience so far).

Pic: Danish description ONLY on Quiche Lorraine & 'Guldpostej' (local Danish product, should try for local experience)

I hope to start Danish language class soonest possible to get rid of the barrier. Hopefully I can be like their ex-princess who learnt up Danish in 100days. Don't like the fact that I don't understand what others are trying to say (it's okay occasionally but if it's all the time, no way). Feels kind of isolated as well, sob sob...

Driving on the other side of the road with so many cyclist around is also another brand new experience. When I was in a car making left turn, it feels like all the cars coming from the other direction are going to collide with me, head-on....that was scary. However, local drivers are 'synchronizing' amazingly well with cyclists & it is a cyclist friendly environment. Perhaps I should try cycling in Copenhagen...perhaps.
